Exclusive Premiere: Jamie-Rose & ft. Kodamilo - Hit the Gas (Prod. Malikai Motion)
Brisbane based Jamie-Rose has already been making waves across continents with her blend of RnB and alternative hip hop. We’re lucky enough to premiere her latest offering, a fresh trap twist on the Malikai Motion produced ‘Hit the Gas’.
Originally a fragile, reflective track tinged with self-doubt, ‘Hit the Gas’ caught the attention of Jacksonville rapper Kodamilo, “I knew I had to get a verse on this the moment I heard it” he says, “I was attracted to the realness and vulnerability in Jamie’s writing and the laid back production”.
On this remix, Kodamilo comes with an enticing, flirtatious verse evocative of ‘House of Balloons’ era Weeknd, Malikai Motion matching the new trap soul feel with a masterful switch up in production adding his signature vocal chops and dark synth bass.
‘Hit the Gas’ is transformed from a lying awake at night ballad “I feel like such a fool...I’m nowhere near perfect” to the kind of tune you’d choose for a late-night cruise down the Pacific Coast Highway, just you and the stars and maybe someone you’d like to get to know a little better. We hear Jamie-Rose in the driving seat, showcasing her versatility, her voice taking on the eerie, sultry energy of Jhene Aiko, “We moving fast no-nonsense,” she sings, the words of an artist set to speed to new heights.
“This was such a dope song for me to show off my vocal abilities. My music is very trap soul and hip hop these days but I wanted to express my original indie R&B roots in this song. I took inspiration from “For Real” by Amel Larrieux who’s a classic R&B vocalist who sings about giving into love. It’s kind of crazy because this song has had eight versions but this one feels the most true to my sound. This version of Hit The Gas feels like what the vision for the song was supposed to be all along. It was just a matter of me finding the right artist to complete and compliment the track, which Kodamilo did so undeniably well. This song is basically about saying, “f*** it”, and giving into something you know is special even if it costs you. They’re worth it.”
