Hey Presto
Ipswich’s own Rye Shabby has teamed up with lo-fi producer Forrest Moon for ‘Hey Presto’. The tune is the first track from their upcoming joint EP Esta, which drops August 14th via In The Balance Records. The imprint was founded by none other than UK hip hop veteran Verb T, with Rye Shabby being one of the rapper’s protégés in recent years.
Setting a nostalgic mood, the music video features vintage footage from Las Vegas, indicating that not all that glitters is gold and that hidden troubles exist beneath every surface. Despite the track’s melancholy keys and sombre tone, ‘Hey Presto’ is a confident progression for Rye Shabby, showing maturity, charisma and pensive penmanship.
Movie samples bookend the tune, with the character pleading for a fresh start after keeping his partner a secret. This is where we first find out about the titular Esta. Look out for the full project arriving soon and in the meantime get familiar with the rest of In The Balance’s roster. Rye really isn’t too shabby.
