Flowers

South London’s Little Torment has been in the game since 2013’s Behind Closed Doors debut mixtape. He’s an artist equally astute at creating Road Rap bangers and introspective cuts. His latest drop, ‘Flowers’, is a beautiful example of the latter and couldn’t be more timely, reminding us to show love to our nearest and dearest while they’re still here.

2020 has been a lot. Death has been ubiquitous. Torment addresses this with poignant bars, articulating the cold realties of being on road - “It was a mission just tryna’ stay alive for 25” - and the pain families endure - “the reaper round the corner / that’s another family torn up, going through the torture”. Speaking from a place of understanding, Torment doesn’t judge or moralise. He perfectly captures the complexities of that life - “Cold hearted in the kitchen cooking death / we don’t want our loved ones to go with less.”

‘Flowers’ is accompanied by powerful visuals, paying homage to those demanding an end to the police brutality aimed at Black communities, frontline NHS staff, and fallen icons, from Kobe Bryant and Pop Smoke across the Atlantic to the Edmonton Dream, Black the Ripper. Coupled with Torment’s emotive lyricism, the combination is truly moving.
