favourite girl

East London based Rio Rainz has linked up with Rad Films to drop visuals for his well-received single ‘favourite girl’ out on Insanity Records, a partner of Sony Music UK.

A young Brit working his way down lifes’ path and sharing the wisdom he picks up on the way, Rio Rainz has amassed an impressive following from the youth of suburban Britain with his genre-blurring mix of singing and spitting. Being only eighteen years old himself makes him ever-relatable for those sharing the struggles experienced when stepping into adulthood; he draws a lot from the split of his Irish- Jamaican parents and the proceeding contrast between city and countryside life which he equates to Ying and Yang.

As for ‘favourite girl’, a Bonny and Clyde hook takes centre stage as the latter glides through London half in and half out of his mates' ride. The production, which definitely deserves a mention, comes from Kurisu and evolves as the track goes on keeping you tuned all the way to the end. It wasn’t looking likely it would ever see the light of day until his friends convinced him to release the track from the confines of his phone's storage where it had been for over a year.

Although obviously very young to hold such popularity, it is as though it was always going to be this way for Rainz; aged six he played the keys for his church choir, before attending performing arts school and ‘finally’ breaking through at just fifteen. Just a couple of years later and he has coverage from Complex, Line of Best Fit and Colours, amongst many, many others… this could just be the beginning.
