Everything Is A Facade
Manchester’s Dámì Sule continues to amalgamate a blend of influence, continuing to exert his authenticity in this latest project ‘Everything is a Facade’. Having dropped the short, three-track project ‘This Love I Have’ just last year in the follow up to his debut ‘Rough Canvas’ back in 2018, the Nigerian-born musician continues to grow in his sound and become further self-assured within his artistry.
Opening with ‘Famous’, the delicate, stripped back production leans you in whilst Dámì Sule displays his imaginative lyricism and honest songwriting ability, straight off the bat. Keeping it light-hearted and laid-back, this track brings about a sense of calm before heading into ‘What Is Real’. The Milo-G produced track brings intriguing basslines paired with heavy, cloudy production bringing about an optimistic and refreshing sound with its funk-infused melody and Dámì Sule’s soulful vocals.
Continuing to keep us on our toes, ‘Young Black Man’ brings a new sound altogether. The low-key, jazz-inspired production makes for the perfect platform for the artist to delve deep and articulate his experience through his poetically-charged writing. Never staying in one place for too long, ‘Your Side’ swoops in with its afro-beat infused percussion, bringing a lighter-feel to the project. His simplistic melodies fall perfectly into place around his rapped verses, making for a tranquil track.
Heading towards the end of the project, ‘Do My Best’ featuring Abnormal Sleepz opens with a dazed monologue with it’s dragging vocal samples before Dámì rides the 808’s into his verse in perfect harmony. This playful track brings an interesting feel to the project with its distinctive sound, flawlessly proving his capacity as both a vocalist and as a rapper.
Drawing the six-track EP to a close, ‘Feelings’ brings a heartfelt atmosphere, with his delicate vocals over the easygoing instrumental, making for a wholesome end to this expansive project. Delving into a multitude of styles and experimenting with his sound, this project puts Dámì Sule down as one of the undergrounds most diverse and ever-evolving artists.
