ENEMY
Within ‘Enemy’, slowthai appears to reference his deemed controversial appearance at the NME Awards in February, pre-Coronavirus. The energetic aggressive track demands the listener’s attention as slowthai instructs his haters to “Keep my name out your dirty mouth” in the chorus whilst proceeding to lyrically address the public backlash in a chaotic yet accessible way that only an artist of his calibre can do!
The music video is quite stylish and very much akin to slowthai’s aesthetic with close-up shots of Thai rapping to the camera through green night-vision lens. From a visual standpoint, you really get the artist’s worth as he immerses you into his ‘Enemy’ headspace.
He interpolates Matt Healy from 1975 saying to the crowd “Everyone send your thoughts to slowthai/F**k knows where he is but god bless the boy” in the intro and bookends the track from a Scottish woman on Twitter, who at the time recorded herself at home saying “slowthai, you have officially been cancelled. ****”. ‘Enemy’ follows slowthai’s recent collection of fiery singles such as ‘Magic’ (produced by Kenny Beats) and ‘BB (Bodybag)’ marking his Solo 2020 return after his 2019 widely praised debut album titled ‘There’s Nothing Great About Britain’.
