Don’t Turn Around
The convention defying Biig Piig continues her journey of self-expression and melodic exploration on the genre spanning, vivid and effervescent ‘Don’t Turn Around’. An Irish born musician living in London, Biig Piig has been making waves in the UK underground scene over the last few years, working with the likes of Benny Mails and Mac Wetha. With her latest offering, the artist uses dance grooves combined with laidback, atmospheric vocal delivery and tongue in cheek, comprehensive lyricism, resulting in a diverse and intimate track.
On an instrumental that feels influenced by the pioneering Tame Impala, Biig Piig samples the disco classic ‘Love For The Sake of Love’ by Claudia Barry, which is also sampled on Montell Jordan ‘Get It On Tonite’. The drums and bass have an element of disco to them, while psychedelic synths and echoed guitars colour in the beat to create a full and vibrant soundscape. The mix feels giving and full of intensity and space, allowing the vocals to be front and centre stage. The tonality of Biig Piig is striking and individualistic, with playful delivery and conversational flows working well. The lovestruck lyricism is bold and honest, whilst offering a touch of humour and ambiguity.
Biig Piig sounds like she is on a different vibe to every other artist out there, and that is why she is so special. Fusing genres in a way that few artists can pull off, with an opulent and unconventional voice, she really stands out, kaleidoscopic and vibrant, amongst the dull greyness of modern popular music.
