Cemetery Walks
In his latest single, we join MIST on a walk that he’s been taking for some time now. It’s through the cemetery that he lets down the walls to show us the defining moments that lead the artist to who he is today, a journey not that dissimilar from a phoenix rising from the ashes.
The beat cascades in, the bass-heavy in order to mask the pain behind each memory at the same time accentuating it. As we listen we feel the push-pull of the waves of grief kiss our ears while witnessing someone rise to meet them, wade through them and survive. MIST is living in a home that may never be whole, there will never be a reconciliation in the form of shared memories but at the same time, there is a light through the darkness that carries him onwards.
He challenges those who may not quite understand, posing the question, “what do you know about cemetery walks?” The question rises between chapters that allow his story to unfold, each set to a memory and a moment in time. We watch him battle to be comfortable in his own successes and search for answers to his own questions.
Some chapters feel like a punch to the gut, some chapters feel like empty rooms without the lights on and truth be told, at the end of the chapters, we don’t have a resolution but what we do have is something beautiful in its own right.
