Casiotone Consciousness
‘Great Escape’ is one of the most unusually produced tracks I have had the pleasure to hear this year - props to producer Zach Michel. Unless I’m mistaken, the track is almost completely comprised of analog Casiotone sounds. If it isn’t, it’s a very natural replica. The meeting of this production with Orrin’s De La Soul-esque “stream of consciousness” flow is a perfect example of the beauty in the merging of early 2000’s indie underground with hazy stoned poet rap. Whilst the straight beat and uplifting melody would imply this track would have more relevance in the summer, this is not the case. This song will turn your bus ride to work into a psychedelic daydream, and if you’re having trouble invoking a mental image, check out the superb video.
