Blunder
London’s renaissance R&B star Rasharn Powell gives us a taste of his forthcoming debut EP ‘Dusk & Dawn’ with pensive single ‘Blunder’.
Rasharn seems to be carving a unique path within the UK’s R&B scene, weaving hints of alternative rap and soul within his soundscape in offerings such as ‘Warm in These Blue Jeans’ and ‘Smithereens’ – slowly but surely propelling himself into the upper echelon of singer songwriters to hail from the country’s capital.
‘Blunder’ takes an unorthodox route to Powell’s usual groovy tone on contributions like ‘Freedom’ and ‘Joy Ride’, opting for a distorted bass standing in for the funky low-tones we’ve all come to love when tuning in to Rasharn. Gianluca Buccellati laces the track with looping guitar chords, accompanied by a drum sequence backing the progression alongside an occasional sweet sounding brass synth that rings throughout – setting an ideal ether for Powell’s reflective dialogue, confessing his blunders post-breakup.
Rasharn accompanies the audio with visuals courtesy of the Reid’s (Will & Ed) and their talented team, shining a spotlight (figuratively and literally) over previous memories of Powell’s with a lost lover – toying back and forth with his inner turmoil of the blunders that may have led to the two parting ways.
With yet another calming entry to Rasharn’s silky smooth catalogue of melodies, the anticipation continues to brew as we count down the days to the release of his debut EP ‘Dask & Dawn’ – till then throw yourself into the full ‘Blunder’ experience.
