Big Worm
Coventry’s finest Mugun further displays his versatility and ear for killer flows on the avant-garde, divergent and boisterous new single ‘Big Worm’. The unique and fiery voice takes the best from the different UK sounds like Drill and new school Grime to create a charismatic and individualistic variation on the movement. Coming off a series of prolific singles, Mugun continues to bring the fire with cutting flows, astute writing and idiosyncratic instrumentation. The track is complemented by an explorative, well-executed video.
The instrumental revolves around a coercive, melodically progressive sample that keeps the track moving forward, along with a deep, booming bass and busy, concentrated percussion. The sparse production hits in all the right places, leaving plenty of room sonically for Mugun’s strident, stinging vocal delivery; attacking the beat with his signature Coventry tone. The flows are explosive and canorous, keeping the ear of the listener with ease and craft. The writing feels more tongue in cheek than his last track ‘If I Kweff’, but the bars are still intelligent and affecting, with every expression feeling measured and resonant.
Thematically dense, focused and compelling, Mugun continues to stake his assertion for wider acclaim. A relative veteran in the scene now, every new track shows variety and progression. Definitely, one to watch.
