All I Need
Jacob Collier demonstrates his eclectic versatility and ability to entice impressive features on new track ‘All I Need’. London based Collier, who has already won 4 Grammy’s, manages to seduce up and coming Leicestershire native Mahalia and popular US artist Ty Dolla $ign into being a part of this cultured, idyllic and polished collaboration.
Mixing jazz, soul and pop sensibilities on ‘All I Need’, the trio sing of romanticised love and the need for nothing else. The voices of Collier and Mahalia are like sugar to the ears, harmonising pitch perfectly with each other over the ever absorbing beat. The instrumental is very spacious and actually quite sparse, especially towards the beginning of the song with the vocals taking up a lot of the sonic room of the track. The soft smooth keys and bass carry us along until we reach a chorus that seamlessly switches to a dance beat with skill and artistry. As the song progresses we really start to see the true talent of Collier, as he fuses musical genres so subtlety that it all just blends into one ferociously enjoyable burst of energy and joy.
An expertly crafted and impressive track, Jacob Collier proves that he can more than hold his own alongside some of music’s biggest names. He is one of the most accomplished artists around and having only come onto the scene in the last five years, it feels to me that he is someone who will be at the top for decades to come.
