2 Metres Apart
Cambridge-born singer Etta Bond releases her latest EP ‘2 Metres Apart’. In such a time like this, it is nice to be able to relate to a piece of work that carefully puts into words what one may be feeling, and this project does exactly that. Only 4 tracks in length, we listen as she pens her account of life during these unprecedented times.
The opening track entitled ‘On A Beach’ is a soulful introduction to space that Bond is in, wishing she was elsewhere with her lover as she sings “Miss Corona what have you done, keeping me from my lover”. A feeling that many can relate to, she sheds light on the current pandemic situation with a beat that is soulful yet smooth. As we move into the second track ‘Break My Quarantine’, the slower beat gives a more intimate vibe as the London-based singer continues to describe her emotions whilst being away from her lover.
The stripped-back beat before we are introduced to the chorus of the third track ‘One More Sleep’ almost sounds like a lullaby as Bond’s voice is audibly soothing to the soul, a feature that the singer has mastered so well over the course of her career. The closing track ‘Close As I Can Get’ adds to the quarantine-related theme, soothing lyrics accompanied by a gentle, guitar-based beat.
This EP is full of emotions and imagery that we can all relate to during such a time, and Etta Bond is able to eloquently express her emotions in the space of four short but powerful songs. This quarantine-related body of work, from the artwork to the songs, delicately puts into words what a nation of people are feeling. With a video set to be accompanied for each song, this will surely be a project set to impress fans. This project is nothing short of art and once again solidifies Etta Bond’s undeniable talent.
